I should never be allowed to watch documentaries.
In the past week I have decided to go “oval pescatarian” (auto corrected to Oval Rastafarian. I love dem eggs, mon!). Oval pescatarians eat all vegetarian options plus eggs and seafood. I will try to stay mainly vegetarian (and actually not eat a ton of dairy, either) but it’s nice to know I can have some calamari when the mood strikes.
I actually believe humans perform optimally on a vegan (plants, nuts, fruits, veggies, and seeds) diet, but baby steps here.
It makes sense not to eat death. I know that’s harsh, but it’s just the truth. I don’t care about fish as much as I do mammals, and many of the disciples were employed by Gorton’s, so for now I will not contribute to the widely practiced poor treatment and inhumane slaughter of pigs, cows, and chickens.
Next up on my “no fly list” is sugar. Do yourself a favor and watch “That Sugar Film”. It will shock you to see how much hidden sugar is in the so-called health foods that flood our supermarkets, and what sugar actually does to you: mentally, physically, and emotionally. Only twenty percent of all food items in grocery stores do not contain added sugar.
A woman’s daily recommended sugar intake is only twenty-six grams, and there are 30 grams in one eight ounce serving of Bolthouse Green Goodness fruit smoothie. Four grams of sugar =one teaspoon. 30 grams is seven and a half teaspoons of sugar. In a health drink. That’s crazy! I am not picking on Bolthouse. This is just one example of the ugly side of processed foods.
Hidden sugar is everywhere, and it takes some work to stay within the recommended daily allowance. I am determined to do it, though. Thank God Cabernet only has 4 grams of sugar per glass. Thank God.
